Our journey began over 25 years ago when founder Hoda Mklad and her mother started rescuing vulnerable street and desert dogs, providing them with life-saving veterinary care. What started as Freedom Animal Rescue Centre in Giza, Egypt, has grown into Heart of Life Rescue—a dedicated haven for animals in need.
Today, we are not only on the front lines rescuing dogs from dangerous situations, but we are also active campaigners fighting for animal rights, justice, and government legislation to legally protect street animals across Egypt.
Rescue & Care: We bravely step into challenging situations to rescue, treat, and shelter dogs in urgent need.
Humane Population Control: We actively collaborate with veterinary groups to safely catch, sterilise, and release street dogs to sustainably reduce the stray population.
Advocacy: We fight to give a voice to the voiceless by pressing for stronger legal protections.
Protection extends beyond shelter walls. With certification from the World Health Organisation as a Civil Society Coordinator, Hoda leads our ground campaigns across streets and neighbourhoods to raise awareness about rabies prevention.
We have successfully carried out dozens of educational drives—extensively documented through photo campaigns—bridging the gap between human health, community safety, and street dog protection.
Heart of Life Rescue receives zero government funding. Every contribution goes directly toward caring for our rescued dogs and fulfilling mandated street programs. Here is how your generosity makes an immediate impact:
Nourishment & Food:
$1,000 / week covers essential fresh food (chicken, potatoes, and bread).
$300 / 10 days provides staple carbohydrates (rice and pasta).
Clean Water: $100 provides water tanks to ensure a clean water supply in an area without safe drinking water.
Medical Care & Medication: $283 / month supplies necessary treatments, medications, and emergency care.
Street Sterilization Efforts (CNVR): $300 (approx. 15,000 EGP) covers surgery, anesthesia, transportation, and vaccinations for 10 street dogs to meet government-mandated humane population control.
Shelter Operations: $2,500 / month covers essential shelter rent and living wages for our dedicated caretaking team.
